Pre-Production Swede

As the Editor and Sound Designer of the swede, I am in charge of props, costumes, set dressing list, and the sound plan.

As the transportation scene has 7 different sets and costumes, there's a lot of everything listed above.

Costumes:

Scene 1- Ken: Pink Shirt, Barbie: Pink dress

Scene 2- Ken and Barbie: Striped shirt

Scene 3- Ken and Barbie: All white

Scene 4- Ken and Barbie: Plaid shirt + Brown Pants

Scene 5- Ken: Pink shirt/White pants, Barbie: White shirt/Pink pants

Scene 6- Ken and Barbie: White sweatshirts+ Sweatpants

Scene 7- Ken and Barbie: Vibrant Clothes

This is the list for the props, that my director helped me with.

Since this is THE low budget film, we will have to borrow a lot of the props from our teachers.

Because of how complex and decorative the background is for the video clip, we will be using a green screen borrowed from our media teacher.

As the editor, I will experiment with the green screen during post-production.

For the sound plan, we will not be using any audio from the actual scene itself, meaning we will record our own dialogue and putting a twist on the music choice. For comedic effect we will probably have Barbie listening to heavy metal instead of the joyful Barbie music she's listening to in the original clip. I may experiment in post-production with a mixture of the original sound and the heavy metal, but for right now the only sound plan we have is using our own dialogue and music for the swede.

First Production

Hi, my name is Nya and I'm an AICE Media Studies A student.

I took AS level last year, and am very excited to make some new films with my crew this year. Last year I worked in a group of 4, but our editor Kate was a senior and sadly graduated last June.

So for our first project this year, our director is still going to be Bella, cinematographer is still going to be Jackie, and I will take on the roll of editor since I worked in post production with sound design and can work with sound in the editing process.

For our first project, we are going to make a swede of a certain movie clip. My group has chosen a scene from the new Barbie movie, specifically the transportation scene to the real world.

This is the movie scene.

While strategizing our best choice for the swede, we went through many potential movies. In the beginning, we chose the trailer for Five Nights at Freddy's, which came with many problems, most being with the amount of scenes and dialogue. We realized that finishing the swede in 2-3 weeks would be virtually impossible with doing a trailer. Next we discussed movies like Maze Runner and Attack the Block, which would be have a more humorous effect, but the movies both used a good deal of CGI. Overall we decided on the Barbie movie, the transportation to the real world scene. The reason we selected this scene is because from an editor and sound designer view, I think there's a lot in this scene. The editor is in charge of the props and costumes, and in the only 18 second clip there are 7 completely different outfits and settings. The sound is a pretty basic non diegetic soundtrack, and editing consists of jump and straight cuts. Our director expressed their ideas of having such a recognizable scene, which we agreed Barbie was perfect for our group to do.

Introduction

Hi, my name is Nya and I'm an AICE Media Studies A student.

Last year I was a sophomore in AS level media, I worked on 2 films including The Chess Film titled 'Black, White and Red', and the first 2 minutes of a film for the AICE portfolio titled 'Bookworms' about 2 friends, one of which has a secret. My role in both was the sound designer.

Since The Chess Film was the first film, my crew and I were still figuring everything out about the film making process. It was a silent film with no dialogue, so as the sound designer I felt lost in what a could contribute to my team; and ended up not doing much in the chess film. Looking back now I feel that I could've done a lot with The Chess Film as the sound designer, but I learned from my previous mistakes when we started on the foundation portfolio.

For the Foundation Portfolio, I did a lot with the sound in both production and post production. I learned how to record roomtone/soundscape to create the overall depth of the film and learned in general how important sound is in the film industry. Working with Adobe Audition I applied many different aspects to my film that made it auditorily complex.

My own personal media consumption is high in socials, such as Instagram and TikTok. As the sound designer of my crew I've been more aware of and attentive to the various facets of sound in film, and have come to appreciate certain temporality of film. I hear little sounds that add beauty to movies, such background music that relates in some way to the story.

Now for our first production this year my crew and I will be making a swede of a scene from Barbie.

 This is me!
